A Reason to Smile!

Small Treats, Big Impact: $28,610 Raised to Help LSKYSD Students Access Extracurricular Activities

Thanks to the efforts of Tim Hortons restaurant owners Glenn Isaac and Marion Michnik, along with strong community support in The Battlefords and Meadow Lake, $28,610 was raised through this year’s Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign in support of the Living Sky Innovation Fund’s Everyone Can Play initiative.

Proceeds from the from the Smile Cookie campaign, held April 27 to May 3, will help remove financial barriers for Living Sky School Division students and schools, giving more kids the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports clubs and the arts.
Launched last fall, the Everyone Can Play initiative has already supported over 60 students across the division by helping cover costs like registration fees, travel and equipment.

“Feedback from schools has been incredibly positive, with more students able to get involved and try new activities,” said Christeena Fisher, coordinator of the Living Sky Innovation Fund. “These funds are helping create opportunities for students to participate in everything from athletics to robotics, drama and a variety of clubs.”

“Students are at the center of everything we do,” said Brenda Vickers, director of education with Living Sky School Division. “It’s special to see our community come together through a campaign like this to support kids. Knowing these funds will help remove barriers and give more students the chance to participate and belong makes this partnership with our local Tim Hortons locations truly meaningful.”

This year, Tim Hortons restaurant owners and millions of generous Tim Hortons guests helped in raising a record-breaking $23.3 million for nearly 700 local charities and community groups across Canada and the United States through the annual Smile Cookie campaign.
